Parade Of Love

The Parade of Love and Christmas Day
Passed me by when I was young
Although it slowed, it couldn’t stay
And just as soon, it carried on

If I was a little faster
Big enough to shout and wave
Maybe then, I could persuade him
Not to hurry, just to wait

I know now the grass was thin there
Maybe too thin for the crowds
Still though, it was far from winter
Sun still reaches shallow ground

Sometimes I dream that it’s still marching
Endless summer
Riding on the tail hitch of the sunrise morning
Down broad streets, ten miles long

I wish I knew where you’ve been living
And if the night still feels your song
You left your favourite CD playing
Until you’re home, I’ll keep it on
